About Me
I teach creative writing classes and workshops to beginning and advanced students of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. In addition, I have taught introductory classes in composition and college writing and research, as well as courses in public and professional writing, including Grant and Proposal Writing and Writing for the Public. Finally, I have taught Introduction to Feminist Theory.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in empowering students to use their own writing to engage creatively and critically with their communities and make discoveries about the issues that compel them.

Classroom Presentations
As a poet, I am particularly interested in how ekphrastic poems can respond to conceptual contemporary art. I created a 3-hour workshop based on that project. I use a PowerPoint to show art works, while students follow along with this handout of poems and writing exercises.

When I teach theory, I spend time breaking down the steps of how to read and apply theory.
